Sivananda Yoga Class – Saturday 04th January 2020
from 4 pm to 5.30 pm at Pittsburgh Buddhist Center
Facilitated by Virginia Robson ([email protected])
Sivananda Yoga is one of the traditional Hatha Yoga forms. Swami Sivananda developed this holistic approach calling it the Yoga of Synthesis. A Sivananda yoga class helps encourage proper breathing, flexibility, strength and vitality in the body while calming the mind. It follows this basic pattern of relaxation, an opening chant, pranayama (breathing exercises), warm-ups and asanas (poses), and at the end, a guided relaxation and closing chant. It is suitable for all levels of fitness as there are modifications and variations for all of the asanas for those students who have health issues or are just starting Sivananda Yoga.
These workshops will introduce participants to this form of yoga with a brief review of the approach, followed by a 90 minute yoga class. Please bring your own yoga mat. The workshop is free, and participants may make a donation to the Pittsburgh Buddhist Center.
Virginia Robson has been practicing yoga for almost 20 years. She did her teacher training at the Sivananda Yoga Vidya Peetham in Kerala, India in 2015.
